After a couple of successful events with the female graduate students and female faculty in EECS, we decided to end the semester with a lunch at Aladdin's Cafe. Thanks to Dr. Charles E. Hughes and Dr. Issa Batarseh, we were able to get funding for this event from the UCF Foundation. Thus, allowing the lunch to be FREE for all the girls.
Approximately 30 women attended the lunch, including Dr. Damla Turgut, Dr. Parveen Wahid, and Dr. Gita Sukthankar, delighting us with their presence. We enjoyed a delicious middle eastern buffet, with great service from the restaurant. The owner of Aladdin's Cafe gave us special treatment, making us feel like home, the house even treated us tea and turkish coffee.
We enjoyed the conversations with our female faculty, and learned from their experiences as graduate students in EECS. The girls that attended the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, shared their experiences with others who could not attend or did not know about it. Girls familiar with the food at the restaurant, shared their recipes or tips on how to prepare them at home.
We were very pleased with the food and service, and more importantly, with each others' company.
