Even though we had been in graduate school for a couple of years, we still greeted other girls in the department with a cold "hi". Sometimes we did not even know their names. Considering we are not many girls in the department, we thought it would be a nice to make our bonds stronger and support each other. In the spirit of bringing the female graduate students in EECS together, a couple of us organized our first gathering at the end of spring 2007. Since most of the graduate students come from different countries and we enjoy sharing our culture, we decided to have a potluck. We had the fortune to sample Chinese, Pakistani, Peruvian, Caribbean, Indian, and other delicacies. This was also a nice opportunity to talk about other aspects in our lives. More importantly, it gave us a chance to just be girls, which can sometimes be difficult in a male dominated field.
